Camera Angles

Key Camera Angles

LS
A long shot shows from head to toe.

ES
An establishing shot is designed to establish a lot of information.

MS
A medium shot is from the waist up, it is more focused on the person it is also usually used in factual programmes like the news.

MCU
A medium close up is from your shoulders to your head, its a comfortable shot so it puts people at ease.

CU
A close up is just the face, it is used for dramas so you can see emotions and good to get involved on the show/film.

ECU
An extreme close up is good for detail but not very comfortable.

Reverse shot
This could be when two people are talking but there must be a talking space and eye contact between them, with this shot you would go back and forth with the two characters, but the camera could be over the shoulder.

Wide shot to create suspense
An example of this would be in a horror film and they would do a wide shot of the characters but the main focus would be the door on the side this would create suspense but it doesn't mean they have to act on it.
