The Commissioning Process

The commissioning process;

Being a writer can be hard dealing with everything on your own so you might need an agent if you feel you need one and it would benefit in your writing, an agent is someone who acts on behalf of you helping you meet targets and organising meetings for you to tell your script, an agent can also protect you from all legal and ethical problems. If i was a writer I would consider an agent as they could benefit  me with meetings and legal obligations.

Lindsay Bradbury is a BBC commissioning editor, she has involvement in every stage of production including pre production and post production, they support the rest of the team and are the key element to a production. E- Commissioning is sending your initial ideas to a company for them to look at,  these ideas are not for the public as they are like a pilot show where it is only seen by the company and the company decides whether it will go any further for the public to see.

To get my single camera drama short film' The Untold' produced into a proper film with the warner brothers I would have to go through the producer and they would decide whether it adapted into a film or not. Things at warner brothers gets green lit by producers and agents working with them funding it, warner brothers would not buy it though, an independent film company would.

Pat Higgins the writer of strippers vs werewolves had a one off payment from the company who bought the story off him, this means Pat Higgins has no involvement or say in what happens with that production now, he also has no ownership over the story after he had received the payment.

Errors and Omission Insurance - What is it?
A professional liability insurance that protects companies and individuals against claims made by clients for inadequate work or negligent actions. Errors and omissions insurance often covers both court costs and any settlements up to the amount specified on the insurance contract. You could hire a script doctor to polish up your script to ensure you will not have a lawsuit against you. You could need E&O Insurance as there could be mistakes in your script or characteristics as there could be someone like one of your characters and the real person could sue you for making them out to be someone else.
