News Essay

I will be discussing and comparing the codes and conventions in news, how the audience sees the news, how the show and people in the show are represented and how multi camera is used in a news show.

I will be talking about codes and conventions on Outfoxed first, The opening scene of outfoxed is the author of the 'The problem of the media' I think this was a really good person to start the film on as it immediately says that this is going to be about problems in the media industry and on the news, He uses a metaphor for the problems we as public face in the media industry, the film then goes on to an animated TV that is sparking up and exploding, this is a very well done code and convention as again it is explaining that the media is wrong and is blowing up in all sorts of ways.

The show uses a lot of animated pictures and graphs but I think this is a good way of showing us instead of telling us, the animated chart shows us 'Young Rupert Murdoch' and the years in which he did his first big things,

The Blake Snyder beat sheet.

Project Title - The Garage
Genre - Science Fiction
Date - 12-02-14

1. Opening image ( the hook, drags audience in to the film) - A weird looking machine in the garage, with a green wire on it and the camera will be zooming out from the green wire. (this is to get the audience thinking and questioning, why a re they showing us this?)

2. Theme stated (setting the theme, just say it!) - I will have my main characters best friend state the theme of loneliness. ( this will make the audience feel sorry for my main character and also get them thinking about his background )

3. Set-up ( setting the scene, 6 things that need fixing, how it is before things changed, work life, love life, home life, introducing their world ) - I will introduce the characters back life, job home and friends. ( this will give the audience an idea of what my character is like, was like and what he's going to be like )

4. Catalyst ( this is what will start my story, what knocks it over and the first thing to change ) - he's working in the garage when he's best friend says 'why don't you build a time machine' and he immediately starts thinking about it and how he could do it.

5. Debate ( obstacles, possibility, whether they can do it or not ) - he starts to doubt himself about if he can do it or not, but finally gets the motivation and the resources he needs.

6. Break into Two (beginning, middle and end, everything is different, things that need fixing would have been fixed, what's going to happen) - this is when he starts being more optimistic (this is fixed because he was more pessimistic) and he also starts to build the machine.

7. B story (background story of someone else, best friends story, something other than the main thing) -

These links are all relevant research, one of them is about home intrusion, another is about emotional blackmail which is very in depth and the last is a similar film with a similar storyline to ours - I know what you did last summer - The research here was found by one of out classmates Rory Mosedale.

Diary Entry 30th April

Diary entry for 30th April 2014

Its a few days into the Single Cam Drama project and Dee and I have done the proposal and have written out whats going to happen in each minute out of the ten minutes, these were both quite tricky to do but they are done, there will probably be some small changes to these two pieces of pre production in the process of this project.

Today we learnt how to use After Effects and got play around with it for a bit but i don't think that me and Deanna will be using after effects in our drama production, we might use it for transitions when switching shots to add more tension and drama to the production, I am going to try and add more to the proposal and work out the budget today, I am also going to do some relevant research, including other dramas and ones with a similar storyline.

Deanna and I will both be sorting out a Production schedule today and starting on the shot lists, I also think that I will use After Effects for title sequence but we will not be using it for special effects for car explosions or anything like that.

The script is in working progress and needs a lot more adding to it, but we are not worrying about it at the moment. Me and Dee both have good ideas which will be put together to make our Drama Production even better.

Diary Entry 23rd April - New Project

This is my diary entry for the project that we are doing at the moment, a single camera drama production, at the moment I am thinking about different genres and ideas, I want to do a thriller and so does Deanna Ricketts and we both have the same ideas and might work together.

I spoke to Joe and Deanna today and we discussed different ideas, and Joe decided he was going to work on his own, and Dee and I decided we are going to work together, I am not worried about working with Dee as I know she is hardworking and is really looking forward to this new project, I am a little worried about different ideas, if I don't like something dee does then we are going to have to compromise and same with me liking an idea dee doesn't.

The idea that Dee and I have is a thriller and two girls have come through the door from a night out with blood on their hands and they are confused as to what they have done, even though they don't know, someone else does and they are blackmailing the girls, a letter will come through their door saying 'I know what you've done' this is going to be most of the story, its going to be a mystery and they do not find out until the end.

I want the audience to feel constantly on edge and asking questions, this is the whole point of my story.

What happened?
What did they do?
Where has the blood come from?
Where did they do it?
Who did they do it too?
Who's blood id it?
Who is blackmailing them?
Why did they do it?
Why don't they remember?
How did they do it?

These are the questions that everyone will be asking and they will not be answered until the very end of the production. This is what gives the story a twist! Its a mystery!
